DR WHO - FACE OF BOE
BEFORE & AFTER PHOTOS
Here is a project I worked on for the amazing Millennium FX Ltd. The Face of Boe is an iconic character from Dr Who which was created by the fantastic team at Millennium many years ago. Whilst freelancing for them last year I was asked to restore him as he had slumped down on his animatronic mechanism and torn in several places.
He had some significant tears in his foam latex skin around his eyes and his eyelids had been glued back in the wrong place so I unstuck them and removed the residue glue and re-positioned them on the eye mechanism as best I could accounting for foam shrinkage. I then re-sculpted any gaps from the old glue to create a nice eye line. Part of the eye mechanism had fallen off so the very talented Joe Browning created a new piece so I had something to stick the skin to.
There was a lot of damage around the chin area where it had slumped and stuck itself to the perspex display casing. I repaired any tears and holes In the skin and then painted them to match the original paintwork, being careful to keep the restoration areas sympathetic to the aged piece.
With the help of Joe Browning, Jimmy Mann and Tim Quinton we pulled Boe back in to a more upright position and his mechanism was fixed at the back in place. we then secured him back in his case and fixed his outer case which was hanging a little loose. Once he was in place Darren Robinson kindly helped me man-handle his skin and give him a little face lift back in to place and stuck on to the mechanism! It was a great piece to work on and he is now back on display, touring in a Dr Who exibition
